To me, being a midwife is a form of activism where I am determined to respect and support the informed choices of my clients. I discovered my passion for midwifery while I pursued an undergraduate degree in Health and Gender studies and developed a strong interest in reproductive justice. I then graduated from Laurentian University and became a midwife in 2021. I grew up nearby in Kitchener but have settled in North Brantford where I enjoy the many trails Brantford has to offer. I spend a lot of my free time outdoors with my partner and two young boys playing at the park, hiking, or bike riding. When I get the time, I enjoy reading young adult fiction and backcountry camping. I have had the most rewarding experience being part of Midwives of Brant and connecting with clients here. I look forward to a long career in midwifery where I get the honour of supporting clients and their families on their journey through parenthood.

Tanja was born and raised in the Netherlands, where she completed her nursing training before immigrating to Canada in 1998. After becoming a Registered Nurse in Ontario, she worked for two years at London Health Sciences Centre. In 2003, Tanja moved to England and earned a degree in Midwifery from the University of Luton in 2005. She then practiced as a midwife with the NHS for two years before returning to Ontario, where she worked as an RN in Labour & Delivery and Maternity at Brantford General Hospital. Following an enriching experience in Africa, where she assisted in delivering babies, Tanja continued her work as an obstetrical nurse at Georgetown Hospital. During this time, she also completed the International Midwifery Pre-registration Program at Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University) to become a registered midwife in Ontario. Since joining the Midwives of Brant in 2012, Tania has felt a strong sense of coming full circle, having previously worked as an RN at Brantford General Hospital. She considers it a privilege to support families in her role as a midwife. Tanja and her husband, Folkert, reside in Mount Pleasant.

Maryellen knows babies. After having a midwife for her first child, she joined the Association of Ontario Midwives to support the "business side" of midwifery care. Her love of maternal, fetal, and newborn health eventually led her to pursue midwifery education for herself. She graduated with honours from Ryerson University in 2016 and updated her training to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2024. After eight years as a midwife, caring for babies and parents before birth, Maryellen partnered with the Brantford General Hospital to create the Beyond Birth program. She now focuses on providing medical care for families after birth, including regular follow-up care, lactation support, and leading education and peer support groups for families. Born in Nova Scotia and raised in Toronto, she now calls Brantford home, and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. When she's not cuddling babies, she can be found in her garden, at her sewing machine, or at a local craft brewery.

Ally loves to facilitate informed choice and build relationships with families. She started her Midwifery education at Laurentian University, and graduated from McMaster University. Originally from Kitchener, she moved to Ottawa to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. She worked in research before returning to school for midwifery. After placements in many communities including Sudbury, Markham, Hamilton, and Ottawa, she is excited to be back closer to home and family. Outside of Midwifery she enjoys all things outdoors including hiking, camping, skiing and gardening. She's an avid reader, loves her dog, and always has a project or 2 on the go.

Danielle grew up in the Brant County area and began her journey towards midwifery back in 2011 when she did a co-operative education placement with Community Midwives of Brantford. After working with the midwives and community directly, she knew this was what she wanted to do and spending her career in this clinic became her goal. Danielle attended Laurentian University in Sudbury and graduated from the Midwifery Education Program in 2016. She began working with Midwives of Brant in 2017 and has been Head of Midwifery Services at Brant Community Health Services since June 2023. Danielle and her husband live in Paris with their two kids and two dogs. When she is not busy working, she can be found reading a book, listening to records or spending time with her family in their trailer exploring different campgrounds across Ontario. She looks forward to working with the families of Brant and being a part of your midwifery experience.

I have wanted to be a midwife since I was a little girl. I am blessed to love midwifery just as much now as I did when I graduated in 2005. I have had the privilege of training other midwives in Guatemala and Nunavik. After working in a rural practice in my first year, I have been working in my hometown of Cambridge ever since. Now I am excited to start a new chapter near my husband’s family in Brantford. Today I have three lovely girls that understand when mommy runs out the door she is going to go deliver a baby and am blessed to have a husband who supports me.

Michelle was born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario. She graduated in May 2014 from the Midwifery Education Program at McMaster University. Before entering midwifery, she graduated with a Biomedical Biology Bachelor of Science degree from Laurentian University. When she is not being a midwife, Michelle can be found swimming, walking or spending time with her family. Michelle has been working at Midwives of Brant since she graduated. She calls Brantford home and feels honoured to support our clients through their pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Midwifery, for me, is more than a profession—it's an honour to build trust and connection with your growing family. I believe that pregnancy and birth are deeply personal experiences that deserve individualized, compassionate care. Growing up, I was fortunate to hear stories of my dad and his siblings being delivered at home into the hands of my great-grandmother, Ida Pittman. Those stories stayed with me, and later, my own pregnancy journeys with midwives in Cambridge and St. Jacobs solidified my calling to this work. In my care, I want you to feel comfortable asking questions, sharing your concerns, and making informed choices that feel right for you. My goal is for Midwives of Brant clients to feel confident, supported, and genuinely cared for throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Whether you envision a home birth or a hospital setting, I believe every family deserves a safe, positive experience where their voice is heard and respected. What matters most to me is building relationships grounded in trust and mutual respect. lt is a privilege to walk alongside you during this meaningful time, offering guidance, reassurance, and care centered entirely around you and your growing family. When I'm off call, I enjoy knitting while listening to a quiet podcast, meeting friends for coffee, exploring local trails, trying new recipes with my kids, and playing board games with my husband and children. I look forward to meeting your family, and thank you for trusting us with your care.

Heather started practicing in Brantford in 2005 after completing the Midwifery Education Program at Laurentian University in Sudbury and has been dedicated to this growing community ever since. She is devoted to building trusting relationships with families as they navigate the experiences of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. She gets great satisfaction from watching clients learn, grow, and become more confident as they develop their evolving identities as parents. Heather is the mother of three busy kids who strives to maintain a healthy work-life balance alongside her partner, Mark. They live in Paris. When not working as a midwife, Heather loves to run, bee keep, raise chickens and garden. Heather understands what an important time this is in the lives of the clients she serves and feels very grateful to get to be part of their journey. She looks forward to many more years of providing midwifery care to the clients of Brantford-Brant.

As a midwife, Victoria values developing trusting relationships, being a supportive yet informative presence in labour, and helping you navigate through early postpartum with your newborn. She graduated from the Midwifery Education Program in 2022. She worked in Oakville for a few years before moving to Brant County with her family. In her spare time, Victoria loves spending time outside with her daughter (iced coffee in hand), playing Boggle, and baking. She looks forward to supporting you and your family in this special time!

Sarah is passionate about midwifery, particularly the focus on continuity of care. She values the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with clients throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey - an incredibly transformative time! Sarah was born at Brantford General Hospital and was raised just outside of Brantford. She feels both honoured and deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve her home community. She graduated from Toronto Metropolitan University in 2024 with a Bachelor of Health Science in Midwifery. Prior to pursuing midwifery, she earned an Honours Bachelor of Physical Education from Brock University. In her free time Sarah enjoys playing soccer, exploring new foods, rollerblading, board games, and spending quality time with her friends and family including her husband and their dog, Dumpling.
